There's a particular kind of evening in early September, when the days have started to shorten but the sea is still warm from the summer, and everything feels like it's holding on a little longer.

That's the evening I've picked.

You know those photos you keep meaning to have taken? The ones where you're actually in the frame, not just the one holding the phone. This is me gently taking it out of your hand.

Jackson's Bay is the quiet cove tucked round the headland from Barry Island. Soft sand, cliffs at your back, the harbour lighthouse out across the water. The children will be off collecting shells before I've even lifted the camera, and that's exactly when the real pictures happen. Nobody has to sit still. Nobody has to look at me. Your only job is to turn up and love them.

Bring a towel and something dry for the car, because someone always ends up wetter than they planned. And bring the dog if they're part of the family. Jackson's Bay welcomes them all year round.

Six slots in the whole session, twenty minutes each, small on purpose so nobody feels rushed.
