The Cosy Christmas Sessions.

There's a week in November when it suddenly goes dark before teatime, and the whole family ends up in one room with the lamps on, and somehow it's the cosiest the house feels all year.

That's the feeling I wanted to photograph.

I'm taking over a studio in Cardiff for the weekend and building a proper Christmas corner in it. A real tree, wool blankets, warm lights, and a pile of parcels wrapped in brown paper and string that nobody is allowed to open. Then twenty minutes of your family in it, being however you are that day.

Nobody has to sit still or look at me. The little ones tend to go for the tree within about four seconds, and honestly that's usually where the best pictures come from.

And if you're the one who's always behind the camera, the one who quietly dreads being in front of it, come anyway. I photograph gently, from the edge of the moment. Your only job is to be there with them.

It's warm, it's dry, and it doesn't depend on a South Wales forecast, which in November is worth rather a lot. There's somewhere to sit and a cup of tea while you wait your turn.

Eight families across the day, twenty minutes each, and that's the lot. Small on purpose so nobody feels hurried.

A few practical things. We're at Teddy's Place, Unit 2 Beresford Road Lane, CF24 1QU. It's up a flight of stairs and there's no lift, so buggies come off at the bottom. There's a safe spot for them, and I'll come down and give you a hand with everything. Parking on the lane is limited, so give yourself fifteen minutes, and the easiest thing is for one of you to drop everyone at the door before going to find a space.

My son is seventeen now. I blinked. If yours still climbs into your lap without being asked, this is the year to have it photographed.
